Our next dates are as below. New volunteers are always welcome! If you are interested in coming to an activity please contact one of the listed co-ordinators to say so, and to confirm details (there may be a last-minute change). We usually meet at the activity location at 10 a.m., but for any given date the co-ordinators will confirm the plan and may be able to advise on transport options. Ordnance Survey grid references are given below where possible.
Sunday 11 June 2023: Activity postponed.- Sunday 6 August 2023: Hollinwood Scout Camp (SJ729999). Activity and co-ordinators: to be confirmed.
- Sunday 17 September 2023: Alexandra Park (SJ835950). We’ll be helping with a mixture of activities at this historic park, including management of the scrub, wildflower and pond areas within the woodland, and doing some coppicing. Co-ordinators: to be confirmed.
- Sunday 15 October 2023, Tegg’s Nose Country Park (SJ950733). There’ll be tree and scrub work to be done on the hillside at this beautiful site. Co-ordinators: to be confirmed.
We’ve had a slow-down in activities lately due to being a bit short on the co-ordinating side – but it’s great to see people out and about again so please put these in your calendars and come along if you can! 🙂
General information
New members are always welcome!
All of SMCV’s one-day activities take place on Sundays. The sites at which we work are in and around Greater Manchester; you can arrange with the co-ordinators to make your own way to a site and meet us there, or we’ll try to arrange shared lifts when possible. If you want to come to an event please contact the co-ordinators to say so, and to confirm final arrangements. If you have questions about the group or the work we do, please contact us here or contact any of the co-ordinators listed on the programme. Please also contact us if you would like to be added to our e-mailing list for reminders of future activities.
Usually, we have a weekend away three times a year in the Peak District National Park doing a full weekend’s conservation with the Peak Park Ranger Service. We haven’t re-started those weekends since the advent of COVID, but might be able to do so in 2023.
